The Ceado CP150 Juicer: Quality for the Countertop

Previous posts have mentioned nothing but coffee. You were starting to think this was a pure-coffee blog, weren't you? Gotcha!

As I mentioned a few posts back, we do a whole lot around here. Yes, much of that variety involves coffee in its many forms, but we don't like to limit ourselves.

So today, we'll be talking about juice. More specifically, we'll be talking about the Ceado CP150 cold press juicer. We recently got our hands on this impressive machine, and have thoroughly enjoyed putting it through our tests. Impressed with the quality of both the CP150 itself and the juice it produces, we're ready to let you in on the action.

Watch Kibri Everett, owner of Cary, NC restaurant 'Pure Juicery' use the CP150 with three tasty juice recipes in our new video!

Why Juice?

There's a lot to love about juice, though the overabundance of information can be intimidating at first. That's why, like one of these machines does with a bundle of fruit, I'm here to break things down into a smooth, easily-digestible cup of knowledge.

Juicing fresh fruits and vegetables is a great way to deliver the healthy nutrients that your body so vigorously craves. I know what many of you are thinking; "ew, fruits and vegetables." And to be honest, I've always been the same way. Having tried and thoroughly enjoyed the juice that comes out of the CP150, however, I can now consider myself a firm believer. Something about the fresh-squeezed taste of these fruits and vegetables is extremely appealing to me and somehow, the juice tastes both like and strangely unlike the produce it came from. In a good way, of course. It's as if the juicer knows exactly what parts of the ingredient to squeeze out to make for a perfectly tasty cup.

What's extra-nice about juicing is that it eliminates a lot of the fibers that come standard on typical fruits and vegetables. You're getting the pure, uninterrupted interiors of these items; the parts that I now like to call "the good stuff." By removing these fibers, the nutrients are given a free and clear path to your body that they otherwise wouldn't have.

What's even better about cold press juicing, when compared to centrifugal juicing, is that a far greater amount of nutrients actually make it to your body. Centrifugal juicing, while effective, actually involves high levels of friction that serve to shred the cell walls of the nutrients, rendering them ineffective. Cold press juicers simply squeeze; there's no discernible friction, and the goods come out intact.

The CP150

Having now tried several juicers, I've noticed that the Ceado CP150 is actually a very special machine. For starters, let's talk about noise. Have you ever heard a juice machine run? If you haven't, imagine standing on an airport runway behind a Boeing 747. The plane's engines are running at full force, but you can barely hear them over the earth-shattering rumble of the  juice machine crushing an orange six feet to your right.

The CP150, on the other hand, is super quiet. There's still some noticeable noise, as is common with any piece of machinery, but it's astounding how soft-spoken this machine is. This is a juicer that can be used at home to make a nice cup of juice while enjoying an episode of your favorite television show.

Speaking of home use, this machine is surprisingly affordable. Other juicers, especially counter-top models, can run upwards of $10,000-$20,000, but the CP150 is right at home at a fraction of those costs. For those that are interested in juicing but could never find a home-use model that doesn't require a second mortgage, this is the juicer for you.

Of course, many looking at the CP150 will be interested in it for commercial use. Adding juice to a menu offering is a great idea, and with cold press especially, can be extremely profitable. Cold pressed juice can last far longer than centrifugal juice, which only lasts 24 hours max. The CP150 is also NSF-certified, meaning it's safe to use in a restaurant or juice bar setting.

That's all great, right? But what should you be juicing? And what can you juice?

Well, the obvious answer would be fruits and vegetables. Juicers like the CP150 get get a lot of juice from things like apples, oranges, watermelons, cucumbers, pineapples, and so on.

However, many juicers can't handle certain ingredients. Bananas being one such example. Bananas are often too starchy to get through a juice machine, but the CP150 does a great job of extracting juice from them. I'd suggest making sure that bananas are the first ingredient in the chute, though, since the remaining non-juice pulp can prevent later ingredients from getting juiced.

Leafy greens are another tough spot for common juicers. Of course, not so with the CP150! The Ceado pulls a surprising amount of liquid from things like kale or mint leaves, and the flavor is very much intact. In fact, we got so much juice out of mint leaves that we had to start changing our recipe plans to account for the significant mint flavor!

I personally loved getting to know the Ceado CP150. It's a great little machine, and I could actually see myself owning one at home in the near future. This machine has actually gotten me to enjoy fruits and vegetables; I never saw that coming.

I'll leave some recipes below for the juices we made. If you try these, let us know what you think! To see Kibri make these recipes herself, check out the video on our Youtube page!
